AEW Stat Preview, Hirsch vs Cargill: Styles Make Fights #27

Updated: Sep 20, 2021

If this is your first Styles Make Fights, please read the introductory post, to be sure you understand our premise, then come right back and join us!

Last week, I did SMF via Twitter, and the post mortem was there, too, and edited into the tweets embedded in the column, you can find my reaction to my own mistakes there! Let's move on to tomorrow night's Dynamite!

Leyla Hirsch vs. Jade Cargill

Jade Cargill can joke (or have Mark Sterling joke for her) about Leyla Hirsch's size, but there's little question that Hirsch is the biggest challenge that Cargill has faced so far. In the ten victories she has in our data, only Red Velvet and KiLynn King have taken Jade over a minute and a half to put away. While it is true that Hirsch hasn't succeeded in her past mountain climbing attempts, she gave both Nyla Rose and NWA World Champion Kamille significant difficulty. She will certainly take Cargill to deeper waters that are entirely new to her.

Other than less strikedowns and fouls, and more dives, Hirsch's mix of offense is rather similar to Cargill's! In her match-up against Nyla Rose, she conceded grapples to the larger competitor, which (within kayfabe) I feel is a strategic mistake. Which I think she realizes, as she promised on Dark tonight to throw Cargill all over the ring. If she follows through on that, I believe this will be very close, with the slight edge to the technical mastery of Hirsch over Cargill's raw strength.

Darby Allin vs Shawn Spears

I'll just say it: after high-profile losses to Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara, Shawn Spears does not look to stand a chance against Darby Allin. No detailed stat analysis required! Thanks for reading and see you next time!
